About this mod

BetterBots enables Darktide bots to utilize combat abilities, grenades, and tactical decision-making in locally hosted Solo Play missions. It opens the game's existing but restricted input system to allow bots to act more like human players.

Note: This mod functions only in Solo Play. It does not affect bots in public matchmaking, public Havoc, or private duo lobbies, as those utilize dedicated servers.

Features

  • Bots use combat abilities, blitzes, and grenades instead of holding them throughout the mission.
  • Improved revival, disabler prioritization, and defensive tool usage.
  • Strategic utility: bots ping elites, push poxbursters, avoid daemonhosts, and carry books.
  • Smart resource management: bots prioritize humans for healing and ammo, and respond to tagged pickups or command-wheel requests.
  • Support for class-diverse squads using Tertium 6 profiles with optimized loadouts.
  • Extensive in-game configuration to toggle or tune behaviors, presets, and individual bot logic.

Requirements

  • Darktide Mod Loader
  • Darktide Mod Framework (DMF)
  • Solo Play
  • Tertium 6 recommended for class-diverse squads

Installation

  • Extract BetterBots.zip into the game mods folder.
  • Add BetterBots to the mod_load_order.txt file below dmf.
  • Re-patch mods using the game's toggle/patch script.

Known issues

  • Hive Scum support is implemented but unvalidated.
  • Item-style abilities (e.g., Zealot relic, Psyker Force Field, Arbites Cyber-Mastiff) may break with game updates.
  • Bots remain restricted by AI limitations regarding complex maneuvers like animation-canceling or high-level risk management.

Changelog

v1.2.3:

  • Fixed two Ogryn-related animation crashes.
  • Resolved ability and grenade slot conflicts to prevent overlapping attempts.
  • Improved grenade slot handling during revives and interactions.
  • Added a backstop to log warnings instead of crashing when animations fail.
