About this mod

This mod introduces a "grounded," realism-adjacent survival experience for ship management. It replaces menu-based systems with hands-on mechanics for repairs, maintenance, and flight operations.

Features

  • Dynamic wear and tear during flight, landing, and grav jumps.
  • Irrecoverable system damage requiring manual repairs at ports or stations.
  • Potential destruction of grav drives, main propulsion, or fuel tank ruptures.
  • Helium-3 scoop modules for collecting fuel from gas giants.
  • Cruise mode: A fast-travel hybrid system that adjusts functionality based on current ship damage.
  • Combat Battle Stations: Crew provide ship perks when stationed in the cockpit during combat.
  • Hull breach system with zero-G piloting, optional hull integrity limits, and crew safety risks.
  • EVA mechanics for conducting external repairs on propulsion and fuel tanks.
  • Distress call capability for ships left adrift.
  • Configurable settings for landing/docking fees, departure clearances, and docking authorization.
  • Integration with base game Ship Services, LIST, Crimson Fleet, and Red Mile.

Requirements

  • A save game file.

Installation

  • Install the mod via your preferred manager. The mod includes built-in script auto-updaters; do not deactivate or clean your save to update.

Configuration

  • Game settings are available in-game to adjust features, including toggles for optional systems to prevent conflicts with other mods.

Compatibility

  • Overrides minimal base forms (ShipServicesRepairCost global variable and DialogueStarstations quest). Designed to avoid conflicts with mods like Real Fuel or Cost of Spacing.

Known issues

  • Updating while in specific locations (like space stations or major cities with Departure Requests enabled) can cause script variables to reset or stick. Save in neutral orbits like Jemison, Akila, or Neon before updating. Never save while performing an EVA.

Changelog

  • Gounded Essentials Vol.4 base release.
