Subnautica 2 FPS and Performance Boost (Disable Lumen and Post-Processing) screenshot

About this mod

Optimized Engine.ini files to boost framerate by disabling heavy post-processing effects and scaling down or removing Unreal Engine 5 Lumen lighting. Designed for performance on older hardware or handhelds.

Features

  • Disables Motion Blur, Depth of Field, Bloom, and Color Fringing.
  • Potato PC Version: Disables dynamic lighting and reflections for maximum framerate. Interiors and water lose realistic lighting bounces.
  • Balanced Version: Disables Lumen while retaining Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI) and Screen Space Reflections (SSR).

Installation

  • Download the desired version and extract the zip file.
  • Open the Run command (Win + R) and navigate to the game configuration directory.
  • For Steam or Xbox/Game Pass, open the Windows or WinGDK folder respectively.
  • Drag and drop the Engine.ini file into the directory, overwriting existing files if prompted.
  • CRITICAL STEP: Right-click the new Engine.ini file, select Properties, check Read-only, and click Apply. Failure to do this causes the game to reset graphics on startup.

Uninstallation

  • Navigate to the configuration folder, right-click Engine.ini, select Properties, and uncheck Read-only.
  • Delete the file; the game will generate default settings upon the next launch.
